Happy Monday, yo. I’m so excited now that 24 is back and I can revert to being The Rap Jack Bauer again without worrying about the writer’s strike putting people’s brains on ice for 2 years in regards to my nom de plume. If you’re a 24 junkie like me, stay up with The AV Club’s weekly review of all the episodes.*
Anypoop, I’m here bring you new new new music from yours truly. As I’m prone to do whenever I get enraptured by something dope, I’m bound by a sworn oath to rap over it (not rape it). This time, it’s “The Contender” by the Menahan Street Band. If you haven’t heard of them, you’ve actually heard them in the past–their track “Make the Road By Walking” was jacked for Jay-Z’s excellent single “Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)” from the American Gangster soundtrack. Speech!
Be sure to pick The Menahan Street Band’s album Make the Road By Walking. If you’re a fan of Sharon Jones, the El Michaels Affair, Nomo, or funk/jazz, this is a slam dunk.
Here’s a link to “The Contender (Zilla Rocca Remix)”.
And here’s a live performance from the track that inspired Hov to rap about Britney Spears, uncut heroine, and apple orchards:
*Even though CTU is dust, how dope is it to see the new faces of the FBI: Janeane Garofalo, Billy Walsh from Entourage, and Agent Walker, a stunningly sexy subdued redhead with her eyes on the prize and her gun ready to pop. Not to mention Krazee Eyez Killah as the air traffic controller! I can’t wait for 2 more hours tonight! DAMMIT!
